Meet Julie Merkl - your Physical Therapist

Julie started Quantum Therapy, PC in 2006 in order to provide physical therapy services that focus on Myofascial Release in a private, unhurried setting. It was important to her to be able to provide longer sessions consisting of a one-on-one, hands on approach that appreciated not only the whole body, but the whole person.

Testimonials

  • I started seeing Julie for a rotator cuff injury in my shoulder. After just a couple of sessions I was able to regain my arm movement with a noticeable reduction in pain. Julie really seems to care about her patients' well-being. If you are looking for a hands-on approach to your treatment, I would highly recommend trying Quantum Therapy.

  • I had been suffering with pelvic floor dysfunction for at least 5 years. The pain was unbearable and was affecting my daily life. I started seeing Julie in early February, and I mentioned to her that I also suffered from frequent migraines. Julie felt that both my pelvic pain and my migraines were related to an old injury to my coccyx and to scar tissue from a hysterectomy. Finding Julie literally changed my life. It is now the end of March, and I am pain-free and able to resume my usual

  • I've been going to Julie for over five years now. I have fibromyalgia, which is chronic and progressive, but with her help, I stay functioning and away from pain medication. When I first went to her, I had been having headaches almost every day for twenty years - no exaggeration. She has managed to knock them out for weeks and months at a time. The impact she has had on my quality of life cannot be overstated. I have forbidden her from ever moving or retiring. I truly don't know where I'd be without her.

  • I have been seeing Julie off and on for couple of years now for different pain areas , headaches ,lower back, upper back and shoulders . My job is such that I stand and do repetitive motion all day which causes me to have a lot of tightness and pain. Every time I have seen Julie she quickly finds root of my issue and fixes me within couple of cessions . She is inconceivably knowledgeable ,kind and caring.

  • I had been searching for many years for a massage technique that helped not only during the appointment but afterwards as well. I started investigating myofascial release and then met with Julie. This was after 9 months of chiropractic treatments and 6 weeks of Physical Therapy. I was having tightening and muscle spasms throughout my back causing pain. I couldn't do the typical strengthening exercises because one exercise would trigger a spasm somewhere else. I couldn't sit for more than 10 minutes at a time without pain. I have suffered with back problems on and off for many years and have tried many things. Julie's treatments helped my symptoms gradually and now I can sit for as long as I need provided I keep up with stretching and an exercise program. Her assessment and technique are excellent and I would recommend her to anyone looking for an answer to various problems such as back, neck, shoulder, hip, pelvic pain, migraine, etc. I truly believe myofascial release is a real benefit not only for myself but for many of my patients.

  • I have had chronic headaches for over two years. A few months ago, I heard about Myofascial Release and I found Quantum Therapy. At that point I was treating headaches with medication about 5 days a week. Once I started seeing Julie, I experienced immediate and significant improvement. I’m now treating headaches with medication about once every 10 days. The level of relief I have found through Julie is incredible—both with headaches and other problem areas in my body. I live 70 minutes away and happily make the trip to Portland to be treated by her. She’s absolutely worth every second of the drive. In addition to being a knowledgeable and skilled professional, Julie is kind, caring, and intuitive. If you are in physical pain, I highly recommend that you book an appointment with her as soon as possible.

  • I have dealt with chronic back and hip problems for several years. My new primary physician recommended MFR, specifically stating to find a therapist that has been well trained and adept in this modality. I found Julie online and began seeing her in 2011. The results have been fantastic. Having seen many PT's and other body work practitioners over the years I can say without reserve that MFR has provided the most relief, some of it permanent. I did have surgery on my hip due to a labral tear and other damage and am now 6 weeks post surgery. I began traditional rehab which is certainly beneficial. However, I could not wait to have Julie work out some of the kinks I had as a result of being in traction during the procedure. As expected, one visit was so incredibly helpful I can move forward with the traditional rehab with less pain. I will continue to see Julie for maintenance but cannot emphasize enough the relief I have received overall. Although she does not accept insurance I was able to satisfy my out-of-network deductible and get some reimbursement from my insurance company. Thanks Julie, from the bottom of my heart.

  • Julie, I need to put in writing how much I appreciate your contribution to my well-being. I have healed almost completely from my hip (torn medius gluteus)surgery, which probably would not have happened if you had not suggested that I actually had an injury, not just bursitis as everyone else was suggesting. But it didn’t stop there; the last time I saw you you suggested I have my legs x-rayed and the bones actually measured. It took a while for me to finally get that done, but the results were that my left leg is 13 mm shorter than my right. With a simple heel lift in my shoe, my problems with my SI joint have basically disappeared. My shoulder pain is much less, and I'm getting some PT to gain strength in it. I know I wouldn't have pursued my leg length problem without your suggesting it. I really trust your professional opinion. Thank you so much for your advice. My quality of life is so improved, as well as my attitude. All your patients are very lucky to have you treating them. With fond regards,
